Deep Frying – Secrets
When recipes ask to deep fry an item, many people will cringe at the thought of eating something unhealthy. There is no doubt that frying is indeed not healthy, but if you follow these basic guide lines you can reduce the amount of oil that you consume.
- Always make sure you have enough oil to cover what you are frying entirely.
- Use oils with high smoking points which mean that they will burn at higher temperatures. Oils with lower smoking points, like olive oil, will give off smoke which can give an undesirable taste. Oils like canola or Sun Flower oil are good choices. Canola oil is also a good choice if you want to use natural flavored oil .
- The oil needs to be heated before using. Heat to about 185 Celsius degrees and maintain around this temperature remembering that heating too high will cause the oil to catch fire.
- On another note of caution always carefully lower the object into the oil to prevent splashing and burning your self.
- It is very important that you do not put too many things in to a pan at the same time. This reduces the temperature and it is at this stage that the item can become greasy and particularly unhealthy.
- Make sure you do not over fry as this will also lead to excess quantities of oil entering the item.
- It is not recommended that oil be reuses as oil deteriorates when heated in to unhealthy components.
