The NGO Forum on Aging (NFOA)

The NGO forum on Aging (NFOA) is 10 years old, having been founded in 199 “The year of the older persons” declared by the United Nations. The forum has a member ship of individuals, Associations and Institutions caring for and interested in the welfare of elders. The NFO’s main objective is to focus on elders who are an integral part of the nation and who have contributed immeasurably to its development and welfare. Their human rights need to be, recognized, focused on and upheld with elders reintegrated in society, particularly because the srilanka is a fast ageing country whose elders would need to undertake a greater proportion of service to stand in for a decreasing proportion of youth. The NFOA has therefore been pro-active in lobbying and advocacy on behalf of elders, organizing “One Stop” issues of elders cards, training of carters for elders at affordable fees and having fun events for them during festive period such as Sinhala and Hindu New Year with the Ministry of Social Welfare and the department of social services. The NFOA with a limited membership has been contributing to a number of activities.
